The flu is here! Ugh!

What a week last week was! Gianna got sick with the Creepy Cold Crud (or maybe it was the flu???) and then Thursday night I started getting sick with it and then Stephanie her mom got it. That means for nearly a week we were fighting body aches, headaches, dripping runny nose, fever and just feeling awful all over!

This was one of the worst illnesses I've had in about 5 years. I've had Type A flu before and this felt just like that. Unfortunately without insurance I cannot afford to get Tamiflu and at this point I'm thinking it was the FLU and not a simple cold. I got over it much faster than I do a cold.

Anyway, I contacted a friend who gets respiratory infections - colds, pneumonia, asthma, etc on a regular basis every summer and she has SWORN by this combination to help her get better faster. It's a combination of LOCAL honey and Essential Oils. I thought I would give it a try.

I am not a doctor or even a nurse - just someone who tried this on myself and it seemed to ease the symptoms. I'm still fighting the runny nose but other than that I'm feeling much much better! I thought I'd share my experience.

Here's what you need:
1 Tb Local Honey
1/4 cup HOT water (no need to boil it)
1 drop Lemon Essential Oil
1 drop Shield Essential Oil

Drink it up. If you are not comfortable ingesting EO's feel free to drop 1 drop of Lemon & Shield - or do Shield in your diffuser and inhale it. I did it about 4-5 times a day and my friend Gail does it 2-6 times a day.

Shield Essential Oil is a healing oil which is a blend of six different therapeutic grade essential oils, including cinnamon, clove, lemon, eucalyptus, rosemary, and frankincense. You can learn more about & purchase Shield HERE & Product Information (PDF) HERE.

Lemon Essential Oil has a fresh clean scent and can be used for skin care, respiratory health and a host of other important uses. Learn more about & purchase Lemon HERE & Product Information (PDF) HERE. I use Lemon a lot for cleaning and scrubbing things like my counters & the shower.

Age Suggestions:
6 months up: At night and around Gianna I only used Lavender & Tea Tree.
6 years up: Use the Lemon & Shield in the Diffuser (anyone 6+) & give them a Tablespoon of Local Honey only (kids).
Adult: Use the Lemon & Shield to ingest

Update - Friday was by far the worst day last week and I think I took 4 doses of the above mixture & Saturday I didn't take any although I did need to sleep in the afternoon. By Sunday I felt MUCH better than I had since Wednesday.

Instagram....

Image result for instagram buttons

OK - I signed up for Instagram but no clue how to use it. Can I link pictures from book reviews, how to's, etc... directly from my blog or do I have to use my smart phone? Huh?

So, I found a website that says I need to add the Instragram App to my Android or I can't use it - good thing I have a Android - huh? So now it's loaded & ready to go..... what now?

1) Can I upload pics already on my camera?
2) Can I set up folders?
     a) 1 folder for Daycare Kiddos?
     b) 1 folder for Simply Aroma stuff (booths, products I've made, etc)
     c) 1 folder for blogging.....
3) How best can I utilize this for business purposes? If people can capitalize on Pinterest for Marketing.... why not Instagram for the same? Is there a class for marketing on Instagram?

Help? Advice?

WHAT? Facebook bought Instagram? Has it become another Roller Coaster from H E Double Hockey Sticks????

Flu, Cold and Winter Illness - Review your Natural Options!

Last night it was brought to my attention that there is a virus that is going around and attacking kids. It's no your normal Flu Bug or your normal Summer Cold - this one attacks the lungs. It starts with cold symptoms and can cause complications in kids with asthma or other respiratory problems. If your child is wheezing, having difficulty breathing take him/her to the Dr right away.

The illness also can cause coughing, sneezing, fever, aches and, in some cases, vomiting and diarrhea.

There isn't a huge percentage of kids hospitalized - this is a good opportunity to review precautions we can all take to avoid illness this winter....

1) Teach your kids to WASH THEIR HANDS after going to the bathroom & when ever they sneeze or cough.
2) Teach your kids to Sneeze or Cough into their elbow sleeves.
3) Disinfect your door knobs, phones, TV remotes, light switches every night before bed. Hand each child big enough to reach their light switches or the bathroom counter a Lysol Wipe (or handmade wipes made with Deflect or Shield Essential Oils) - and teach them to wipe up bathroom counters & light switches before they leave the room. You may want to leave a canister of wipes on the bathroom counter for them to use as they leave each time.

Here's a recipe for Natural Lemon Disinfecting Wipes:

This recipe uses Simply Aroma's Natural Lemon & Tea Tree Essential Oils. I love the smell of Lemons and there are many natural benefits to using essential oils....

Lemon does more than smell good - it helps to calm coughs and wheezing, helps your body naturally cleanse and detoxify, helps to reduce blood pressure & improve mental clarity. It's also a Fever reducer and you can use it as a disinfectant around your house.

Tea Tree is antiviral, antibacterial and helps to relieve earaches, may kill bacteria and fungus, and reduce allergic skin reactions. It also alleviates infections such as acne, fungal nails, lice, scabies and ringworm. Adults with respiratory colds can boil water and add a few drops of tea tree oil to the water then after removing the pot from the heat put a towel over your head and breathe it in for 10-15 minutes to help relieve congestion.****

Shield: Another Essential Oil that I personally use whenever I or one of my kiddos gets a cold is Shield. It's my favorite blend from Simply Aroma! From Simply Aroma's webiste: (Shield is a protective blend that covers a broad spectrum of anitimicrobial activity and contains properties that strengthen the immune system. This oil is a blend of 6 different therapeutic grade essential oils, including cinnamon, clove, lemon, eucalyptus, rosemary and frankincense.

The benefits of Lavender Essential Oils

In June, I signed up to sell Simply Aroma (no this is not a sales pitch - but if you'd like to order just click on the link). I was curious to see if Essential Oils could help me combat the constant pain and achiness. It's usually bone deep and not even Chiropractic can do much more than lighten the pain for a day or two. (Chiropractic has helped me get rid of 80% of the headaches I used to get and I very rarely have migraines anymore.)

One of the oils that came in my Free Kit (which is still available till 9/15/14) was Lavender. I wasn't going to touch it. I don't like the smell of Lavender - the only thing I do like is the deep beautiful purple on the plants. Then I heard it would help the baby I watch sleep better. She was only sleeping 45 minutes if I was lucky, refused to sleep in the packnplay as her last sitter just let her sleep on the bed & at almost 6 months that definitely wasn't going to work. So, I decided to try the Lavender on myself first & got out the diffuser.

I loved the smell. It was light and refreshing and while I didn't notice a difference in my own sleep right away - I sure did with the baby. She went to 2 hour naps in the AM and 2 hour naps in the PM! I didn't really notice anything for myself in quite a while - until about a month ago.

For over 30 years I haven't reached the REM stage of sleep which is very common with Fibromyalgia patients. Lately I hurt at night and was tossing and turning. I just couldn't get comfortable. Plus I was hot! (I'm nearly always cold & no it's not due to Menopause or Perimenopause)

I started noticing I was more relaxed during the day. Then I started thinking about my sleep and realized that I haven't been tossing and turning as much. I'm still not dreaming and really don't think I'll ever get back to that point. About 2 weeks ago I realized I haven't been as stiff. Actually I'm not stiff at all in the morning when I go to stand up. My back pain has gone down at least 70% when I get out of bed and while I don't think it has anything to do with the Lavender or my sleep my hips haven't been going out as much and there is no stabbing pain.

Then I read the Fact Sheet that is available to customers:

I'm amazed! I've always noticed that natural - or alternative methods have helped me more than drugs and just going to bed. But this is amazing!

Have you ever used Essential Oils? How have they benefited you the most?
