Found this while hopping the net...

I'm wandering the net entering giveaways which I don't do that often anymore. I'm just to swamped with my Usborne Books business, 2 blogs, etc and I just haven't seen that much that I feel I "gotta" have. I did find this awesome recipe that I definitely hafta have - I'm afraid I won't find it again.

Everblossom

I found this recipe on a darling blog I haven't been to before (can you imagine?). Kylie is a freelance natural health writer and the found of Everblossom - a blog with all kinds of great posts, recipes and thoughts like the "health benefits of coffee" (she's a coffee-a-holic), how to "brighten" someones day - with 17 ideas! And here is my new favorite - with my fibromyalgia I'd probably burn through a pot a week!

Ingredients:
1/2 cup shea butter
1 T beeswax pastilles (can be omitted but balm will melt without it if it gets too warm, keep in a cool location - not in your purse!)
ginger essential oil
peppermint essential oil

Instructions:
1. Melt the shea butter in a double boiler until all chunks have disappeared.
Remove from the heat as quickly as possible to avoid cooking away nutrients.
It doesn't take long!
2. Stir in 10 drops of each oil.
3. Pour mixture into a metal or glass container. Can use a small tin or a mason
jar.
4. Let cool - stick it in the fridge or freezer to make it set up faster.
5. Rub into achy muscles.
If you need it stronger melt down and add 5 more drops of each oil until it's the
strength you like. You can get all ingredients from Mountain Rose Herbs per Kylie.

    This recipe is from everblossom.net

The Quick and Easy Guide to Branding Your Business and Creating Massive Sales with Pinterest

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Mom Blog Society. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

    Book Review & Giveaway

    by Kim Garst
    ASIN: B00792SJ0U
    Size: 766 KB, English
Purchase on Amazon for $4.97: Ebook

    About the book:
Pinterest, though rhyming with interest, is only loosely related! Basically, it’s a virtual pinboard just like the corkboards we had in our rooms as kids and you may still have in your home or office. Pinterest is a social networking site that allows users to create photo collections online – like online, upscale scrapbooking. It is primarily a photo sharing website where the members are allowed to create albums pertaining to a certain theme or pattern.

Over a very short period of time, Pinterest has become one of the leading social media networks. Fairly recently, given that it launched in early 2010, the site has grown in leaps and bounds and is viewed as a strong competitor to the older social media networking websites. At present, the website attracts over 11 million visits each week, placing it among the top 10 social networks.

Over the past few years, businesses have been using social media websites for promoting and boosting their businesses. The same is the case with Pinterest. You might be wondering how a photo sharing website can help your business become a success.

This book is intended to be a guide for using Pinterest to strengthen your business and brand.

    My thoughts:
It seems "Branding" is the Buzz Word of 2012 doesn't it? Everywhere I turn I see another business changing their name, their colors, combining different stores all into one big store, changing their business cards, flyers, posters, etc - all to seem new and different to customers and hopefully bring in more revenue.

Is it working? How can you do the same for your home business - or even a big business that you work for? Well, you can do all the above - but there is another step that you can do to round out your online presence.

    Pinterest.

Did you know? Women make up the largest percentage of shoppers. Why? They do the grocery shopping, the clothes shopping, pay the bills, take care of the kids, etc... So, by branding and building your business' presence on Pinterest - where 80% of users are 'WOMEN' (!) you are reaching a huge audience on a daily, weekly, monthly basis!

I was reading the book "The Quick and Easy Guide to Branding Your Business and Creating Massive Sales with Pinterest" by Kim Garst tonight. I've been wanting to feature the fundraisers Usborne Books has with Cards For A Cause Fundraisers and also my bookfairs. Kim shares ideas on how to start up your Pinterest Page and how to set it up to maximize your public reach which I'm going to definitely try. One thing I'm also definitely going to do is add a Pinterest button with my other Share This buttons. I've got a small list of actionable things I can do.

You can purchase the ebook here - it's only $4.97 (it's FREE for Prime Members) and well worth the money. Kim gives you so many tips that everyone from the beginner to the advanced marketing person can use. Some of the things she covers are:

    1) Setting up your Pinterest Page
Pinterest is a site that you can join only by invitation.
    2) How to know if your business can use Pinterest & how to use it to promote.
    3) How to use Pinterest for "Customer Testimonials" - gotta check that one out!
    4) Product Offers - available to Pinterest customers only.
    5) Setting up a Catalog of your products (she suggests to wait on this one until after you set up your following - you don't seem as "in your face" then).

There is so much more to this book. I will definitely be putting many of these ideas into motion. So watch and see....

    Victory Gardens

    WWI Victory Garden Poster
I was watching The Victory Garden tonight and it seems there is a movement in the US to encourage community gardening. You can actually join a website and commit to growing your own garden, sharing your produce and encouraging others in your neighborhood to plant, grow and share the produce with others in their community.

There have always been gardens and communities that need to grow food together to feed everyone but during World War I and II public food was severely rationed and available food was very limited. In 1917, Charles Lathrop Pack organized the National War Garden Commission and launched the war garden campaign in hopes to help raise food for people at home and loosen the purse strings for feeding the troops. Communities were encouraged to cultivate available private and public lands which meant over 5 million gardens were planted and food production exceeded $1.2 billion by the end of WWI.

By 1944, a poster campaign encouraged planting gardens and over 20 million Americans responded to the call. These gardens produced up to 40% of all the vegetable produce being consumed nationally.

Victory gardens were planted in backyards and on apartment-building rooftops, with the occasional vacant lot plowed to use as a cornfield or for vine growing plants. You could find gardens in New York around vacant "Riverside", San Francisco in the Golden Gate Park - most notably and Eleanor Roosevelt even planted one at the White House. In London, large sections of Hyde Park were plowed into plots.

A Victory Garden in San Francisco
There seems to be a new push toward Victory Gardens (is it because of the last 10 years of war? 9/11? or just a new found pride in our nation's health and wellness?). Most recently Michelle Obama, the presidents wife, planted a large kitchen garden on the grounds of the White House (2009). It's the first since Eleanor Roosevelt planted her garden in support of our nation's troops.

There are still 2 Victory Gardens around. The Fenway Victory Gardens in the Back Bay Fens of Boston, Massachusetts mostly features flowers now and the Dowling Community Garden in Minneapolis, Minnesota still focuses on vegetables.

I found this information on Wikipedia.

    Terms:
Victory Gardens are individuals growing food at home while sharing experience and crops resulting in increasing individual and community involvement.

Victory Garden Networks are a collection of neighbors growing food at home and sharing together.

People's Victory Gardens are a collection of people growing food in a common space sharing the work, learning and harvest.

You can learn more about Victory Gardens at http://www.victorygardenfoundation.org/ where you can sign up, find a garden near you, commit to starting or participating in a Network and find help or suggestions for any questions you might have. You might also check out The Victory Garden page on PBS - click here.

Song of My Heart ~ Blog Tour

    Review & Blog Tour

    Song of My Heart
    by Kim Vogel Sawyer
    ISBN: 978-0764207860
    $10.19 (paperback)
    $8.99 (kindle)

    About the book:
Sadie Wagner has always been devoted to her family. So when her stepfather is injured and can't work, she decides to leave home and accept a position as a clerk at the mercantile in Goldtree, Kansas. Goldtree also offers the opportunity to use her God-given singing talent--though the promised opera house is far different from what she imagined. With her family needing every cent she can provide, Sadie will do anything to keep her job.

McKane comes to Goldtree at the request of the town council. The town has been plagued by bootlegging operations, and Thad believes he can find the culprit.

After he earns enough money doing sheriff work, he wants to use it to pay for his training to become a minister.

Thad is immediately attracted to the beautiful singer who performs in Asa Baxter's unusual opera house, but when he hears her practicing bawdy tunes, he begins to wonder if she's far less innocent than she seems. And when Sadie appears to be part of the very crimes he's come to investigate, is there any hope the love blossoming between them will survive?

    My thoughts:
Kim has created another winner!  Song of My Heart  is about love - love for family, love for others and fear - fear of doing the wrong thing and not knowing how to fix it.

With characters like Shelva & Melva (that takes imagination!) who add some comedy, Sadie who is innocent and naive, Thad the Sheriff with dreams of becoming a minister (he's a little "strait-laced" & was hired to investigate signs of bootlegging) and Sid. Sid is the "bad-boy" - the one who helps Sadie find a job and then starts acting strangely.

I usually have problems reading books like this, particularly christian fiction because they end up "sappy" or too sweet and naive. But I didn't find Song of My Heart to be like this at all. I enjoyed reading a book that I almost felt a part of - I got to know the characters and it felt like the story was unfolding right in front of me. The story flows from one scene to the next seamlessly and kept me "hooked" from start to finish. I recommend this book for families. It's a great book for mother/daughter reading and book clubs too.

Kim has this verse at the bottom of her website and when I read it I thought that this could of been the theme verse for the book. One that the lead character, Sadie, could have used to lead and guide her instead of not trusting God to help her with decisions and going down the wrong path as she does. Things would of been a lot less stressful for her in the long run. It would for all of us "characters" - real and fictional.

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Deut 31:8 (NIV)

Thanks Kim for a very enjoyable story!

    Sixty Acres and a Bride

Blog Tour ~ Review & Giveaway Notes

    Sixty Acres and a Bride
    by Regina Jennings
    ISBN: 978-0764209901
    $10.19 (paperback)
    $6.29 (kindle)

She's Finally Found a Place to Call Home... How Far Will She Go to Save It?
With nothing to their names, young widow Rosa Garner and her mother-in-law return to their Texas family ranch. Only now the county is demanding back taxes and the women have just three months to pay.
Though facing eviction, Rosa falls in love with the countryside and the wonderful extended family who want only her best. They welcome her vivacious spirit and try to help her navigate puzzling American customs. She can't help but stand out, though, and her beauty captures attention.
Where some offer help with dangerous strings attached, only one man seems honorable. But when Weston Garner, still grieving his own lost love, is unprepared to give his heart, Rosa must decide to what lengths she will go to save her future. Read an excerpt: http://ow.ly/9sK2C.
    My Thoughts:
I loved this book! Rosa is a young bride whose husband and father in law dies in a mining accident. Her husband's family introduced her to the Lord while they were still in Mexico and helped her grow in her faith. After her family threw her out of the house because she chooses to become a Christian and not follow the family religion they take her in as a daughter and she ends up marrying their son not for love but because he had taken her in and was protecting her.

Rosa and her Mother in Law return to Texas to the family farm and find out that the taxes have not been paid for several years and they are in danger of losing their home if $160 is not paid within 3 months (can you imagine?). Between planting a garden, sewing/embroidery, raising chickens and keeping sheep that a family member has given them they hope they will have the money and be able to stay. Of course, men from town have noticed Rosa who is beautiful and single, a nasty neighbor starts stalking her and Rosa turns to Weston (her deceased husband's cousin) for help with protection and the farm.

The story takes place in the 1800's and you see some discrimination against Rosa who is Hispanic & a Mexican Indian. You also see her struggle as she learns American customs and the language (although her English is impeccable), her fear of the neighbor and her struggle with another loveless marriage and her pride in paying her debt and not relying on Weston beyond what he has done for her family.

The author does a wonderful job showing the difference in the Mexican and Texan customs and the story is very well told. The situation with the neighbor is tastefully done and while there is a section at the end of the book that's a bit scary there are no graphic scenes. It will be a good opportunity for you moms to discuss safety and trusting their feelings about others with your daughters. I look forward to reading more of Regina Jennings books!

    EcoStoreUSA ~ review

Prior to beginning my blog and getting to read all the wonderful "green" and "natural" blogs that are out there I really hadn't gotten involved in the organic, natural scene other than to try to get foods from the farmer's market and using whole food supplements from JP+.  One of the benefits has been getting to try and use products that I know are high quality, natural, have No Nasty ChemicalsTM  and ultimately I can feel good about standing behind and suggesting to my friends.

Today I have a review of 2 of EcoStoreUSA's household products. EcoStoreUSA has made an effort to make a difference in the community through education and challenges each of us to Join The Movement. You stay informed and able to help educate the world about eco-friendly products that contribute to healthy lifestyles & you will automatically be entered to WIN exclusive product promotions, join their valued supporter list and receive updates on New Products, Special Promotions and Sales. ~ Product Review

coconut_bodycopyIf you have sensitive skin like I do you may want to consider trying the Coconut & Vanilla Body Wash. I loved how it smelled and it sudded up really nice using one of those mesh pouf balls we all love. The only thing I didn't really care for is when you pour it out the body wash is very thin and you can waste it if you aren't careful and it also makes the bottle pretty slippery so it is a little easy to drop. On the other hand due to it being so thin you don't have to use as much, you don't end up with soapy crud on the walls and surfaces of your tub or shower. To me that is a HUGE blessing! It would be wonderful if the body wash was packaged in a bottle that we could add a pump to so it's not wasted and you can control it easier.

    Pure Oxygen Whitener:

US_OxyI also received a bottle of the Pure Oxygen Whitener ($7.85 35 oz!!) which when I ordered it I was thinking it was similar to a bleach for laundry - and it is - but it does so much more than that! It can be used for diapers as well as everyday cleaning - toilets, sinks, anything that you would normally use Comet on it will do. Basically the Whitener is a powdered cleaner made from mineral salts and plant based ingredients. You just pour it on the surface (a little goes a long way) and then add a little water to your scouring pad (or sponge if using that) and scour it on. Once it dissolves in water oxygen is released and it gently lifts stains and dirt to clean and whiten whatever your using it on.

I have a very old porcelain sink in my kitchen that is really stained and scratched and I thought I would try the Whitener on that just to see if it might help clean up my sink a little bit. I scoured the sink and left a fairly thick coating on the sink and then left it overnight. Normally you won't need to do that - but that sink was nasty looking! The next morning I went to check it out and I was really surprised how much of the stains had been lifted up (really wish I had taken pictures of this!).

You can also use the Whitener on colored clothing without worrying about it "bleaching" white spots through and ruining your clothes. It's Enzyme Free formula helps keep Whites -WHITE and if your whites are old and dingy looking it lighten up any stains if not get rid of them altogether.
