Cook'n Recipe Organizer (software review)

Note: Well, this review has been a long time coming as I kept having issues receiving the software by email we finally got that accomplished and then I had a little trouble getting it to load on my computer. Turns out I think my graphics card or driver on my computer is having issues so this review was a little difficult to do. I would like to thank Cook'n for their patience while I tried to get a review together for them.

Cook'n Recipe Organizer

Cook'n Recipe Organizer

How many of you are like me? You collect recipes from everything - Pinterest, Cookbook authors, magazines, friends and family - and then you have ALL these recipes scattered all over. You cook them once & then you never do again because you can't find the recipe. I can't tell you how many times I've asked mom for her recipe for Chicken Pot Pie, Turkey Potato Soup, Salted Nut Rolls, etc... if I can't get ahold of her I call my sister.

Recently I came across a Recipe Organizer software that allows you to capture recipes on the web just by putting in the web address and then "capturing" it with a handy button on the dashboard of the software. You can add pictures just by uploading them from your computer (make sure your camera or cell phone is handy after your food is cooked). You can also type up your recipe into the editor like normal.

I did have some trouble getting used to the editor this software uses but I think it will just take some time for me to work with the software (not the software working with me). It is programmed so you type in 1 Tab.. - and it fills the blank with Tablespoon. Also, it seemed like there were to many fields in the recipe portion - I just used the same fields and put up with the little "errors" it kept giving me because I wasn't splitting up my detail fields. An example would be: "potatoes, peeled & diced". I like to have that all on one line and just be done with it and the software wants you to break it up into different fields. I have a feeling that you can set up the fields like you want it and with as many as you want - I just haven't figured out how yet.

Our family is in the process of accruing all of mom's recipes for her. You can actually scan them (I think) and put it into the software and that is something we will be definitely be playing with because mom has a LOT of recipes from her restaurant days, from Grandma Deboer and many are just swimming around in her head. When we get it figured out and the recipes input I'll give Cook'n another review.

What I really like though is the Capture the Recipe online feature and I also like that you can print out your recipes to make your own cookbook. There is a long list of confirmed "captureable" websites on Cook'ns website. Wonderful features and I can't wait to play with them more!

You can learn more about Cook'n on their Website, on Facebook and they have lots of scrumptious looking pictures on Pinterest as well.
