One dress. Four women. An amazing destiny.

Charlotte Malone is getting married. Yet all is not settled in the heart of Birmingham's chic bridal boutique owner. Charlotte can dress any bride to perfection-except herself. When she discovers a vintage mint-condition wedding gown in a battered old trunk, Charlotte embarks on a passionate journey to discover the women who wore the gown before her.
Emily in 1912. Mary in 1939. And Hillary in 1968. Each woman teaches Charlotte something about love in her own unique way. Woven within the threads of the beautiful hundred-year-old gown is the truth about Charlotte's heritage, the power of faith, and the beauty of finding true love.
My Thoughts:
This is the story of 4 women although it mostly focuses on the 1st and 4th brides with the other two completing the story and the way the dress touched the lives of all four.
Charlotte is an orphan with no family of her own. She's engaged and due to be married in two months but she hasn't even tried to find a wedding dress and her fiance hasn't even looked at tuxes. When she purchases the trunk without knowing about the gown inside Tim (the fiance) is a little upset that she spent the money without talking to him and a day or so later they end up splitting up. Not because of the trunk but because he wants to postpone the wedding - she gives him an ultimatum - marry me or it's over.

It turns out that they love each other and by the end of the book they recognize that love and end up coming together again. This book has a little mystery, a lot of romance and is very very well written. I liked how the author focused on the story of Emily (the 1st bride) and Charlotte (the 4th). She did include the story of the other two brides - but they mostly complete the story and answer questions that come up. Such as where did the dress come from and why was it sealed in a trunk?

A very good story - there are questions at the back of the book that make it great for a book club, mother-daughter read, bible study or just for personal reading. It is a little dry at the beginning. It never really "sucked" me into the characters lives like some books do - but I will say I did enjoy it a lot. I'd like to know more about Thomas & Mary Grace's story (the 3rd bride) and hopefully Rachel will write there story sometime. =D
