I'm excited about New Opportunities.... my story

Tomorrow is the Day! It's D-Day (for Damsel in Defense)! Some of you know that I have spent the last 6 years selling Children's Books and I have noticed that it was time for something new for about the last year. Something that was challenging, fun, rewarding and that I could have a passion about.

2 years ago this coming June I was working 2nd shift and would get home around midnight and by the time I got home I was no where ready to go to bed. I'd be up until around 3 am on my computer, blogging and visiting with friends on Facebook. My neighbor and I were becoming good friends. You know how nice it is to have a neighbor you call hello to. Someone you trade smiles with and wave to each other whenever you see each other. I knew her husband often took walks at night so the night I got a knock on the door at 1:30 I didn't think anything of it and opened the door thinking maybe there was an emergency next door and they needed help.

When I opened the door I could see someone there (the husband is dark African American) but couldn't really make any features out. He said "Hey Tina, it's Will." I'm like "Who?" He said, "It's Will from next door. I was looking in your windows and was wondering if you need any help." (Now, WHY would I need help on my computer???"

I looked at him and said. "Will, this is my home. It's where I come for peace and quiet and it's my sanctuary." His response was to look confused and then try to argue with me. I do have to say at this point he wasn't try to open the door, he wasn't making any moves toward being aggressive or anything. He tried to argue with me and so I shut the door and locked it.

A few minutes later I heard what sounded like someone walking around my house, trying the doors on the back porch upstairs and the upstairs door. I am the only one living in this house and the upstairs lady (who was my landlady and in her 80's) was in assisted living after falling and breaking her leg in 3 places between her hip and knee in January. I got on Facebook (which probably wasn't the smartest idea) and emailed a friend on Facebook to let her know what was happening... and then my kitchen window started opening.

Yeah, I called 911.

I had 4 police cars in front of my house in 4 minutes flat! I really didn't know what to expect but I never expected them to come so fast. They went right for the house next door (remember his wife is my friend) and pounded on the doors in front and back. Will claimed he was in bed and his wife had no idea what was going on. I felt so bad for her.

Evidently the cops had had some complaints about someone walking around the neighborhood. I don't know if he was pulling the same stunt he did with me - and when the cops asked his wife if he was drunk and she said Yes. He is a chronic alcoholic who doesn't remember what happens when he's drunk. It's constant drinking all day long. (I didn't grow up around drinkers so I didn't recognize the symptoms and I couldn't smell alcohol and he wasn't acting drunk.)

My story could of been much worse. I believe God was watching out for me. He provided me with the sense to call for help before it got worse. He provided me with protection in the Omaha Police who I have to say have impressed me with their professionalism and training.

Tomorrow is the day - the day I start helping other women not be a victim. Or a statistic.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last month I met a friend at a fundraiser for a cancer patient who had just signed up with Damsel in Defense. I had heard a little about it here online but hadn't seen the products in the area at all and really didn't know much about it. So I just asked her out of the blue what made her sign up for it - and tell me more about the opportunity. And I decided to sign up....

Damsel in Defense is about equipping women with the tools to not only keep them safe but also give them the confidence to know that they have a way out if they ever feel threatened. We are very excited about our affordable and adorable line of products. Whether you are at home or traveling, running or celebrating downtown with the girls. Damsel in Defense has the products and fact-based education that can and does save lives.....

Damsel In Defense is…
EQUIPPING and giving women access to products that can protect them. Most women have never held a stun gun and can’t tell you where she could find one to see, hold and purchase. We are changing that!
EMPOWERING women to protect themselves. We are hearing it from customers time and again. Having an item in your hand in that dark parking lot just makes the walk to your car feel safer. It is not a false sense of security, it's knowing that you are better off just carrying a deterrent than you were empty handed
EDUCATING women by providing them with resources to back up their purchase with self-defense training. Our relationships with our customers and our fight against the National Statistics does not end at the time of purchase.

You will find products like Stun Guns - there are several designs:

Striking Distance: (center) is ideal for runners. It can be easily held in your hand, has a cord that goes around your wrist and has a "PIN" attached. If the gun is taken from you the PIN comes out and your assailant can't turn around and stun you with it. It has 6 million volts, an LED Flashlight, ergonomic grip, a 12" reach and is rechargable.

Call Me Crazy (left): This stun gun is ideal for teens/college students and would be perfect for a graduation gift, stocking stuffer or birthday gift. It looks like a cell phone - but it has enough power to stun a date who has gotten creepy, won't leave you alone or doesn't know what NO means. Put it on your table when eating out and/or keep it in your purse or pocket when our shopping. It has 4.5 million volts, a built in/slide out charger, a LED flashlight, comes in a case with a belt clip.

Pack a Punch (right): This stun gun packs 7.5 million volts! includes a LED flashlight, a disable pin, built in slide out charger, and has a black nylon holster.

The Tiny Takedown is also on the right lying down. It has 1 million volts, has a built in charger, a black nylon holster and an ergonomic grip - it's ideal for your pocket or purse.

Any of these stun guns are perfect for anyone - whether you travel, love to shop, go on dates, etc.... Your safety and the safety of your older children needs to come first or you can't help those around you.

pepperspray-big

Pepper Spray enables you to defend yourself while keeping a safe distance from an attacker. A one second burst to the face will cause temporary blindness, choking, coughing and nausea-bringing your attacker to his knees. We use the hottest, most powerful pepper spray available worldwide - it also has an UV identifying dye - your attacker cannot say he wasn't there. It's very difficult to get off and it's gonna be on his face for quite a while. It will have to wear off.

Damsel in Defense's pepper sprays shoot anywhere from 16 to 22 feet, quick release/one hand operation, have a locking/glow-in-the-dark nozzle, UV identifying dye and have a safety feature to prevent accidental discharge. ($15-25 range)

  1. Hi Tina!
I can just imagine how terrifying that must have been to experience. Thankfully you were able to get immediate help. We as women can be so vulnerable at times and need to be able to handle these situations either with training or safety tools as you have listed here.
Great post! New follower via G+ and Twitter.
    Have a great week :)
