Payvment ~ marketing suggestions needed...

Lower Your Alexa Rank over at Blessed Beyond Words
Powered By Payvment
I just opened my first online "store" this weekend and thought I'd share the link. With doing so many book reviews constantly I have books flying out of my ears and I thought I'd offer them for 40-50% off the SRP to benefit families so they can build their home libraries (and help my budget some too).
Tina's Reading Room

Advice & Thoughts needed:
Do you have a store on Payvment? I am going around to see what others are doing and trying to get some marketing ideas. If you have one - would you share it in the comments? I'd like to see your store. Thanks!

If you have a store on Etsy, Artfire or any other "online" store program - how do you do your marketing to get customers? I can't afford to pay out a lot since I'm only working about 15 hours a week - any ideas and suggestions for low budget advertising?

Isn't this darling?
Did any of you sign up for the marketing course on FB? I received a $25 advertising GC from them - but is it worth it to use it? I'm eligible to win another $100 in FREE advertising from them but the amount of people that I refer is astronomical to WIN that extra GC. I just don't want to get a lot of "clicks" and have to pay through the nose for them.

Thoughts???

If you have a store on Payvment (through FB) would you share the link to your store in the comments? I'd like to see your store and if you'd like to share some marketing tips that would be awesome too.

Thanks so much!

The Wonder of Your Love by Beth Wiseman (Book Tour)

The Wonder of Your Love
by Beth Wiseman
ISBN: 978-1595548863
$10.87 Amazon (paperback)
$9.99 Amazon (Kindle)

About the Book:
Katie Ann Stolzfus lives in the small Amish community of Canaan, Colorado. At 40, she is widowed and raising her first child. Eli Detweiler has come to Canaan for a wedding and a long vacation. Having raised 6 children following the death of his young wife, Eli is finally an empty-nester. He's enjoying the slower pace of having no one to care for but himself. When Eli meets Katie Ann there is an instant connection. Yet as strong as the attraction is, they both acknowledge that a romance would never work. But as their friendship slowly blossoms into feelings that are as frightening as they are intoxicating, Katie Ann and Eli question if the plas they made for themselves are in line with God's plans. Can Katie Ann entrust her heart to another man, and rediscover the wonder of God's love?

My Thoughts:
I gotta admit I hesitated to do an Amish book just because there just seems to be so many of them and I wasn't sure if there could be another take on the Amish theme but Beth Wiseman has definitely taken another spin with the Amish genre and succeeded.

The Wonder of Your Love is very well written and this time it's a book in another generation (not the teens or 20's). The characters are in the 40's (gasp), well rounded, mature adults who know who they are and what they believe (or think they do). It was nice to read a book about characters my own age who have many of the same thoughts and moral values that I do.

I was a little surprised to find a story of infidelity (on the part of Katie's deceased spouse) and the mention of one of the main characters becoming a believer in one of the other books. I've never read anything by Beth Wiseman and didn't really expect there to be a message about salvation and belief in Christ in an Amish book (that gives you an idea why I steer clear from Amish fiction as my Christian faith isn't 'rule based' but based on Christ being our 'high priest' not a bishop or priest who dictates behavior and consequences).

The theme of infidelity, childlessness and repentance is very well handled throughout the book and I liked the way the book ended - without jumping straight to the marriage alter. The characters are normal (read not wimpy), flawed and yet gracious and caring. I will definitely be back for another one or 10 of Beth Wiseman's books!

Beth Wiseman is hailed as a top voice in Amish fiction. She is a Carol-award winner and author of numerous bestsellers including the Daughters of the Promise series and the Land of Canaan series. She and her family live in Texas. Connect with her on Twitter @bethwiseman, Facebook, her website, www.bethwiseman.com, and on Amish Living.

"Writing about the Amish lifestyle within fictional love stories has been a wonderful experience." Beth says. "The Amish and Mennonite contacts I have established in Pennsylvania and Colorado help me to keep the books authentic. An often misunderstood sect of people, it has been a privilege to learn about their ways."

Beth is celebrating the release of Book 2 in the Land of Canaan series with a Fabulous Facebook Party on November 1st. She'll be giving away one of her OWN paintings, several mini prize packs and a sneak peak at the next book in this heartwarming series.

The Baker's Wife
by Erin Healy
Published by Thomas Nelson
Purchase on Amazon for $10.98

About the Book:
Before Audrey was the baker's wife, she was the pastor's wife. Then a scandalous lie cost her husband a pastoral career. Now the two work side-by-side running a bakery, serving coffee, and baking fresh bread. But the hurt still pulls at Audrey.

Driving early one morning to the bakery, Audrey's car strikes something-or someone-at a fog-shrouded intersection. She finds a motor scooter belonging to a local teacher. Blood is everywhere, but there's no trace of a body.

Both the scooter and the blood belong to detective Jack Mansfield's wife, and he's certain that Audrey is behind Julie's disappearance.

But the case dead-ends and the detective spirals into madness. When he takes her family and some patrons hostage at the bakery, Audrey is left with a soul-damaged ex-con and a cynical teen to solve the mystery. And she'll never manage that unless she taps into something she would rather leave behind-her excruciating ability to feel other's pain.

My Thoughts:
This is the story of a couple in the middle of a major trial in their lives. After losing his ministry due to a false accusation Geoff and his wife Audrey open a bakery using a skill that they had nurtured over the years of their marriage. Baking had been a means for them to strengthen their marriage and yet still serve those in their church and community who were hurting and need a little love in their lives - and now it was the means for them to make a living.

The main story focuses on the disappearance of Julie who is the detective's wife. The detective "Jack" believes that he is sinless and blameless before God and everyone else should be too. He believes that others suffer because they are sinners (depression, illness, death, loss of jobs, etc) and he believes that if the law won't take care of the problem then he will.

This outstanding book had only one thing that I am still trying to process and am unsure about. Audrey has the ability to connect with others and feel their pain. She believes this feeling comes from God and uses it to help others. To me this feeling is very close to what a physic does and I can't help but wonder if God would give that ability to someone. (Or is this the spiritual gift called discernment?) As you can see I'm not sure what to think here and have emailed the author to get some clarification.

Update:
My question was: "I wanted to ask about the 'gift' that Audrey has. I'm having a hard time understanding it, to be honest. Is it a psychic gift or a gift of discernment? I know that God does not give a gift of being psychic so I'm a little surprised this is in a Christian book. In many ways I know she feels she's being led by God to those who need help, but does He really work this way?"

You can find the author's answer here:
http://erinhealyblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/is-my-heroine-psychic.html

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'm sure you will too. It's very fast paced and you won't want to put the book down. Parent's I'd suggest that you read the book first if you're going to leave it around for your kid's to pick up. Your kid may have questions. There are also questions in the back for discussion and book groups.

Natural House Review & Giveaway

Natural House Cleaning Supplies are Non-Toxic, safe to use around kids and pets, safe for the environment and our water supply. Sinky, Flushy and Stinky are made using pro-biotics which actually "eat" away at bad germs and bacteria and leave good bacteria in your sink, toilet and trash can.

Photobucket Natural House uses carefully selected non-pathogenic and non-toxic probiotic bacteria combined with natural, plant-based, biodegradable synergistic ingredients to plow through the toughest cleaning problems in your natural house.

Keep these CutiesHappy & Healthy!
My thoughts:
Sinky I love this product. I have a very old porcelain sink in my kitchen that gets so grimy and is scratched and stained. It's awful! One day after a new set of stains appeared I got fed up and scoured it with a little of  the Sinky product and then dumped the rest of the product down the drain. My stains are almost completely gone. I so wish I had thought to take a before and after picture - but of course, I didn't (and seriously would of been embarrassed to have you see them). It's taken about 3 shots of Sinky to help with the oders and the stains but I'm so thankful to have a sink I KNOW is clean enough to lick (although I won't be licking it to check) - LOL

Be sure to use a bag on the bathroom sink and tub - you can also use it to scour the sink and the full tub base and around the top to make sure it's full clean.

1 bag per drain a week keeps the Nasties away!.

Flushy - I loved how Flushy foamed and filled up the bowl with a great smell and took care of all the germs and bacteria found in the bathroom. You could use a little of the Sinky to scrub down the outside of the toilet and be sure to use the toilet bowl wand to clean the bowl and underside of the lip of the toilet to clean the whole surface. It's so nice to know that my toilet is clean and stays clean each week.

Trashy - I didn't have a chance to use Stinky unfortunately. I live in an apartment and don't have access to a place I can scrub the trash can down easily outside. No hose, no faucet, etc - I'm going to use it the first chance I get and I'll let you know what I think when I get it done!

To purchase:
You can purchase Sinky, Flushy & Trashy on Natural Home's website. It makes a great wedding shower gift (especially at one of those house showers where a group or individual takes a certain room of the house and provides the cleaning supplies for that room (such as the bathroom) - just add some towels, sponges/scrubbers, rubber gloves and a nice smelling hand soap & lotion for the sink & you've got it made!

A giveaway:
Natural Home is offering my readers a chance to WIN a full set of Natural Home cleaning products - I love 'em and you will too! The giveaway will take place on Rafflecopter, ends 11/2 and is available for US residents - Thanks!

Reclaiming Lily - Blog Tour

Back in February I participated in the blog tour for The Rhythm of Secrets which is the story of a little girl orphaned during the early 1920's. You can read more about the book here.  So, when the opportunity came up to review her next book I jumped at the chance.

Reclaiming Lily
by Patti Lacy
384 pages, paperback
ISBN: 978-0764209413
Bethany House Publishing
Purchase on Amazon here

About the book:
A storm the size of Texas brews when Gloria Powell and Kai Chang meet in a Dallas hotel. They have come to discuss the future of Lily, the daughter Gloria adopted from China and the sister Kai hopes to reclaim. Kai is a doctor who had to give up her little sister during the Cultural Revolution and has since discovered that an inherited genetic defect may be waiting to fatally strike Lily.

Gloria's relationship with her daughter is tattered and strained, and the arrival of Kai, despite the woman's apparent good intentions, makes Gloria fearful. Gloria longs to restore her relationship with Lily, but in the wake of this potentially devastating diagnosis, is Kai an answer to prayer...or will her arrival force Gloria to sacrifice more than she ever imagined?

My thoughts:
Reclaiming Lily is a wonderful read, filled with emotion and loss and ending with the reunification of family torn apart. Gloria & Andrew Powell desire a child and end up adopting a 9 year old little girl from an orphanage in China. The child "Joy" (Lily in China) is the daughter of a family who already have 3 daughters and must give her up in order to save her life when China mandates that each family can only have 1 child. After 9 years of living in the orphanage Gloria & Andrew adopt her and take her back to the states and to racial upheaval against the Asians.

Nine years later, Dr Kai Chang tracks Lily down and introduces herself to the family with the intention of getting to know her sister, make sure she is alright and to share a possible health problem that could affect her sister's life.

This book is outstanding. I managed to read it in one day and I'm sure I will read it again and find details that I didn't find the first time. As always, Patti Lacy's books are well researched, based on the lives of real individuals and full of history. In this case it's the Cultural Revolution and the lack of basic human rights in China. There is also the story of little girls in China thrown away due to the One Child mandate and a intense lesson in PKD and it's affect on the lives of individuals all around the world.

Trevor Andersen - Update 10/3

Monday (Week 2) Wrap Up

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.”
-1 Peter 5:7
Why would we ever want to walk the road of trouble alone?  How COULD we ever walk it alone?  Troubles weigh us down. Troubles nag us.  Troubles keep us from being what we were meant to be.  This simple verse implores us to cast ALL our cares on God; personal cares, family cares, present cares, future cares, cares for ourselves, cares for others, cares for anything.
Why?
Because God cares about us.  The God of all creation, through His Son, has walked the road of trouble, He knows how we feel and He wants to walk our road with each one of us.  What a God!  What a friend!
Cindy and I have experienced so much of God’s caring for us through His people.  There is not an hour that goes by, here at the hospital, that I don’t find myself thinking about the wonderful people that the Lord has put in our lives.  I’m so grateful we DON’T walk this road alone…We COULDN’T walk this road alone.
Trevor enjoyed his day of resting.  Dr. Siebler removed the splint from his leg and put him in a Cam Boot.  They were hoping to get him in a wheelchair and push him around the hallway, but the physical therapist couldn’t time everything just right.  She’s going to come back in the morning to try again.
His facial surgery is scheduled for 12:30pm on Tuesday.  Dr. Ayoub and his team are planning for a 7 hour surgery.  I talked with the nurse navigator and the anesthesiologist about Trevor’s pain management in post-op, so we are praying for a better recovery following this lengthy procedure.  Trevor’s white blood cell count is down again, and the antibiotics they are giving him are taking care of the staph infection.  They did change his antibiotic to a less-aggressive (and less side effects) version since the staph infection is not a resistant strain.  This is all definitely an answer to prayer.
I will post tomorrow as often as we are given new information. Please be in prayer as often as you think about Trevor tomorrow.
Todd

Today was the day for Major Surgery #5 for Trevor. His Dad Todd has been updating us as he knows what's happening: ~ Tina

Surgery #5 Update1
Trevor went into surgery at 12:30pm. He was a little worried & scared about this surgery. I'm not sure if it's the pain he's concerned about or how he'll look when they're done. Before he went down to pre-op, I read Psalm 27 to him. He closed his eyes and I saw a tiny smile. When I was done, his eyes opened up and he asked me to read it again. The power of God's Word is an amazing thing.

Todd
~Joshua 1:9

Surgery #5 Update2

I spoke with a nurse in the operating room just a few minutes ago.  She told me that Trevor is responding well to the anesthesia and the procedure is going as planned.

I wanted to add that I had a chance last night to share some of the photos that were sent to me by DJ Hornacek from our church.  Tim Anstead (church facility manager), with DJ's help, was able to gather up some of Trevor's personal belongings from the police impound lot before the car was towed away.  Not knowing if Trevor could handle the photos, I sat with him on his bed and watched his expression after each photo.  Needless to say, he was very somber, but I could just sense that he ultimately realized, thru visual observation, that God spared his life...and he will be forever grateful to his Heavenly Father.

If you get a chance, I've added some of those photos to the tab above.  I hope they serve as a reminder to all of us that we need to start living every day as if it may be our last, and rejoice at the end of every day in God's unfailing love and protection on all of us.

Todd

Surgery #5 Summary
They are finishing up with Trevor's surgery and Dr. Ayoub came out to give us the update...

1.  Trevor had some very difficult fractures in his face.
2.  His upper teeth were impacted at three different levels.
3.  Dr. Ayoub describes the occlusion (bite) on the left side as excellent, and on the right side as acceptable.
4.  He could not plate the upper jaw fractures, so his jaw will be wired shut for 4 weeks.
5.  He may, in the future, have some limited range on his jaw opening / closing.
6.  He had to plate the right side mid-face fractures.
7.  His nose was put back to the mid-line and splints were put in.
8.  Right now, they are monitoring him for bleeding and vomiting.

Dr. Ayoub worked for 8 hours to fix Trevor's fractures.  He has been described to us, by others, as a perfectionist.  We could tell he was disappointed that he couldn't repair the jaw joints with plates, and now it will need to heal on it's own.  Then, I asked him if he wanted to see the pictures of the car.  He sat back in his chair and all he could say was "He's lucky to be alive; he's luck to be alive."

Dental work and orthodontia may be in the future.  Dr. Ayoub did say that once the swelling goes down, he will look like himself again.  Trevor will be in a lot of pain over the next few days and very swollen.  The risk of infection is also a possibility.

We appreciate all your prayers today and over the past weeks.  We certainly have felt them, and continue to need them.  We haven't seen him yet, so if there is any news when he comes out of recovery, we'll be back...

Todd

Trevor Andersen - Update

Trevor's dad has given us an update on his health and how he is doing. Just so you know, I just copy them from his CaringBridge page that way I don't miss anything. Please continue to pray for Trevor and his family. Prayer requests are at the bottom of Todd's post.  Thank you & God Bless!

written by Todd Andersen
Sunday (week 2) - Morning
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in ALL circumstances; for this is God’s will for you
in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
The apostle Paul was very direct in his final instructions to the church in Thessalonica. What strikes me in these verses are the absolutes he lays out…always, continually, all. There’s no indecisiveness, no floundering, no obscurity.  Paul is telling us to see cause to give thanks for common and uncommon, past and present, temporal and lasting.  God has designed everything for our good, though we may not, at present, see how this can be. It’s HIS will, not mine…and it’s all for HIS glory.
Trevor’s blood cultures came back this morning, and he has developed a staph infection. They will begin to treat it with a different antibiotic (vancomycin), but they do not feel this will delay his surgery on Tuesday.  His temperature is 98.4 and his white blood cell count was down to 18.  Please pray that the infection will be contained, and that his energy level will stay high.
The surgery on Tuesday will be to fix Trevor’s facial fractures (approx. 8).  He is currently set to go in to surgery at 12pm, and will probably be there for 7-8 hours.  This should be the last major event, as far as major surgery, as his long road to recovery continues.  We do ask for prayer for a few things…
1.        Peace and rest for Trevor over the next couple days, leading up to surgery
2.       Clarity and wisdom for Dr. Ayoub and his team as they plan for this procedure
3.       Minimal swelling to Trevor’s face / neck so he can continue to eat
4.       Peace for Cindy and me, as the previous procedures have made for very long days and sleepless nights
Trevor is enjoying another chocolate milk this morning, his favorite drink.  Although, I’m not sure how much room he’s got left in his belly after the 3 Jell-O cups he ate during the night.  Red Jell-O cups…can you guess how I know what color it was?

Hi! Welcome to GivingNSharing where I have spent the last year learning about living an eco/green lifestyle. It has been an interesting year and I've learned quite a bit and I know I have much yet to learn. I don't live a eco friendly life 100% - but I have started recycling, using cloth bags more, and I use less gas in my car mostly because I'm not working FT therefore I'm staying home a lot more.

Every year I turn to my Holiday Traditions blog and this year I've decided that for the most part I will be focused on that blog the next 3 months. Occasionally you'll see me on GivingNSharing & Classic Reading for Kids but it won't be as often. Giveaways will occur on my Holiday Traditions blog unless the product clashes to much (it shouldn't since I'm family friendly =)

Thanks so much for stopping by this first weekend of October. I should be back on both of my main blogs again around January 15th - it's time to kick off the Fall & Winter Holiday season on Holiday Traditions!
